TORCH MISSION

TORCH MISSION is to give a childhood and happy memories of childhood.

TORCH kids are children of pavement dwellers. Their parents are mostly migrant labourers, rickshaw pullers and rag pickers on daily wages or drug addicts.

They all reside on the pavement of Nizamuddin. The children are aged between 3--8years; most of them have never been to school. The pavement is their homes and the roads are their playground. Parents may push their children into begging and prostitution. Their lives are unstable.

As a result of their difficult lives TORCH children are resilient survivors.

They are intelligent, quick and eager to learn new things. Being lively and exuberant they respond with open hearts to those who show affection and interest. It must be remembered that children are happier with their parents and the TORCH initiative is to offer counseling to parents and early education to the children.

The TORCH program is designed to prepare these children to face the world and to enjoy going to school.

RESULTS

And what we are most happy about is that the children are going to school and then they also come to us after attending school for homework and a safe place, away from the pavement.
